The aim of this website is to make the extraordinary Sandycove Atlas as widely known as possible. It is a beautiful and historic document in its own right. When the suggestion that it was used by James Joyce is considered it becomes truly unique.
We want the biggest possible jury to consider the evidence that it was used by Joyce. Part of that is to make the whole of the Atlas available, every page, even blank ones, to anyone at a modest price.
The high-resolution images available here are the best way to study the Atlas in detail. With an enlargement of up to three times compared with the original, small marks appear large and tiny ones become visible.
Skim across any of the openings, and click on the + sign which appears, to see a summary of the main marks on each opening.
To study off-line, to share with friends, or to be motivated to read Ulysses again, for the first or multiple times, all these are good reasons for getting your own copy of the map plates which most interest you.
An ‘Atlas Identity’ package of Cover, Title Page and Contents List is here for download free of charge. The complete Atlas (not including the Index) costs £39. The ‘Joycean Set’, with the plates most relevant for the case that Joyce did use the Atlas, costs £29. Alternatively, every single plate or page that is not free can be downloaded for £3. You will see that the images offered are ‘openings’ or double-page spreads, so in most cases they cover two Plates.
