Back Cover

Features of the Back Cover include lots of dirty marks, a neat little circle in the middle, flecks of black ink and an illegible word or name, crossed out. Most importantly, there is a blood-red scar diagonally down the opening edge of the back cover. It is probably marking ink rather than blood, but Joyce described the book where he looks up the name ‘Asculum’ as gorescarred and took care to make sure the unusual word survived the editing process.
