Plates 24, 25 India, Chinese Empire and Japan

£3.00

The India plate carries quite a few teaching marks, plus a small group of Joycean ones. They centre on Lahore, in the north, referred to in Molly’s solilioquoy. Around the great city, Joyce has also underlined three river names. These do not relate to Ulysses in any way discovered but they do make a potential connection to Finnegan’s Wake, which makes a theme of punning with river names. Plate 25 has just one mark, underlining the German concession of Kwei Chao. It is very valuable because it was almost certainly made on or about 13 August 1904.
